Hi I'm Joel,
After an education as primary school teacher I moved on to studying mathematics and English at the University of Basel, Switzerland.
As an Indiana Jones enthusiast in my childhood days I couldn't resist and set out to find my own adventure.
A couple of years ago I first arrived in Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam to be exact. I quickly found out that in order to learn Swahili I will have to go somewhere else since English was spoken by most of Dar's inhabitants.
A friend directed me to Moshi the small city on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. (Which I climbed later that year as you can see in the picture above.)
Ever since I'm living in Tanzania. I'm now married to a wonderful Tanzanian woman with whom I plan to spend the rest of my life.
It was also my wife's idea to embark on the mission to teach Swahili (Kiswahili as it's called in the language) since a lot of Mzungus
(White people) seem to have a quick grasp on simple conversations but fail to get on with their studies above a certain level.
I'm not only teaching a language but with it also a culture. They can't be separated from each other.
Language Teacher, Manager of a Thai Restaurant.
